A Real Advert for Teaching

A Real Advert for Teaching

Amid the glossy TV adverts that portray teaching as a nonstop, endlessly rewarding experience with perfectly behaved students – and the louder voices highlighting pay, unruly behaviour, workload, and society’s sometimes shaky appreciation of teachers – there is a middle ground. For many of us, this is where the true experience of teaching lies: a blend of challenge, reward, and genuine fulfilment.

I share this not to boast, but because a wise person once told me that stories like these serve as a true advert for what teaching is really about. More importantly, it’s a reminder that in the right school, with perseverance and a commitment to your own growth, you really can make a positive difference in your students’ lives – if that’s your ambition.

Recently, I’ve been humbled by the kind words and thoughtful gifts I’ve received. What moves me most isn’t the gifts themselves – especially knowing the financial constraints many families face – but the heartfelt messages behind them. A simple ‘thank you’ can go a long way in making the hard work feel appreciated.

It’s this sincere gratitude that makes all the difference. It’s what keeps many of us going, and why, despite the challenges, teaching remains an incredibly rewarding profession.

Yours humbly
