Covid Lockdown Had a Lot to Answer For
During the lockdown, our school held a virtual open evening. Wanting to do something a little different from the usual video talks, I threw together a cheesy rap video over the course of a weekend. It’s definitely no masterpiece, I can assure you!
At the time, I was a bit torn. On one hand, it was great fun to make. On the other, I wasn’t sure how it would affect my “professional” image.
But I needn’t have worried. Over the years, the video has proven to be both entertaining and – in some ways – motivating for students. I was even told by one that it “still manages to get stuck in my head from time to time,” which I hope is not a bad thing!
So much so, that at the end of my last term at RLS, two students kindly made a remix of the original track.
Feel free to check out both versions here:

One thing is clear: it’s often the unusual, out-of-the-ordinary things that people remember. Sometimes our crazy ideas don’t land, but other times, they make all the difference.
I’ll certainly never forget Mr Jenkins and Mr Dalzell’s rendition of the rap during the end-of-term speeches – it was a highlight I’ll cherish for a long time.
