With World Book Day on the horizon (6th March 2025), now is the perfect time to plan blending storytelling with technology!
1. Code Your Own Adventure
Encourage students to use Scratch or Python to create an interactive, text-based adventure story. They can design branching narratives where the reader chooses different paths, much like a classic “Choose Your Own Adventure” book.
Bonus Challenge:
Students can incorporate images, sound effects, or animations to enhance their digital storytelling experience.
2. AI-Generated Book Illustrations
Let students explore AI image generators to create book-themed artwork. Challenge them to generate visuals depicting books being read in extreme locations, such as in space, underwater, or on top of a mountain. **Keep in mind that AI-tools have age restrictions and should be used with adult supervision.**
Bonus Challenge:
Have students write short descriptions or micro-stories to accompany their AI-generated artwork, merging creativity with technology.
3. Digital Book Reviews
Ask students to write and record video or podcast-style book reviews of their favourite stories. They can use video editing tools or audio software to add effects, music, or animations.
4. Literary Escape Room in Code
Using Scratch or Python, students can design a digital escape room based on a popular book. Players must solve puzzles or answer book-related questions to “escape” the story.
Bonus Challenge:
Incorporate cryptography concepts where students encode and decode literary-themed ciphers.
Celebrate Student Work!
Showcase student projects in a classroom exhibition or school-wide competition. Offer prizes for the most creative, technically impressive, or engaging projects.
Why not make World Book Day 2025 an interactive experience to highlight the power of storytelling through technology?!
